Mantle's Revolutionary Skin Care Inspired by Heart Transplant Science (2025)

Unveiling the Secret of Skin Care Inspired by Heart Transplant Tech

In a fascinating twist, a beauty brand from Scandinavia, Mantle, has drawn inspiration from an unexpected source - heart transplant technology. But here's where it gets intriguing: they've created a skincare product, The Organ Essence, that harnesses the power of antioxidants used in organ preservation.

The story behind this innovation is both personal and compelling. Josefin Landgård, CEO and cofounder of Mantle, shares how their chemist, who leads R&D, was motivated by the heart transplant journey of her goddaughter. During research prior to the surgery, the chemist discovered the liquid used to prevent organ oxidation outside the body. This liquid, rich in antioxidants, is crucial for protecting tissue and preventing degradation.

The chemist's curiosity led to experimentation, aiming to create a similar liquid for skincare. And the results are groundbreaking. "For the first time in the world, it's available as a skincare product," Landgård proudly declares. The Organ Essence has become an obsession for her, praised for its ability to protect and strengthen skin, eliminating surface dryness.

Over time, the efficiency of the antioxidants became evident, resulting in a brightening effect and reduced pigmentation. Mantle's dedication to innovation and functionality is evident in this product launch, which is their largest to date.

The Organ Essence is now available, with a 100-ml bottle retailing for 48 euros. Mantle's Scandinavian heritage influences their product creation, focusing on helping skin withstand harsh elements like winter's cold, which can cause dryness and sensitivity.

Landgård describes their product formulas as "barrier-reparative and very nourishing, using biomimetic ingredients." Her tech background ensures that everything is infused with technology and driven by innovation. In their laboratory, they continuously develop new products and search for unique ingredient combinations.

Mantle's range includes a diverse selection of ingredients, from ceramides to bakuchiol, sea buckthorn, jellyfish mucin, EGFs, new peptides, orchid stem cells, and bio placenta. The brand's key skin categories encompass facial serums, moisturizers, cleansers, and body care, with The Hydra Serum as their hero product.

Face care products range from 28 euros for The Magic Milk to 159 euros for The Longevity Mask, while body care products start at 19 euros for The High Five hand cream and go up to 58 euros for Body Retinoil.

Mantle's reach extends beyond its home market of Sweden, with a strong presence in Germany, Denmark, and other European countries, as well as the U.S. The brand has partnered with hotels like Ett Hem in Stockholm for amenities and has an e-commerce site that ships globally.

With approximately 20 employees, industry sources estimate Mantle's total sales last year at around 7 million euros. In February 2024, they secured 2.4 million pounds in funding, led by Venrex, a London-based venture capital firm. This investment aims to support Mantle's European expansion.

H&M is another notable investor in Mantle, further solidifying their position in the beauty industry. With this innovative product launch, Mantle continues to push the boundaries of skincare, offering a unique and effective solution inspired by medical technology.

And this is the part most people miss: the potential controversy. What are your thoughts on skincare inspired by medical procedures? Do you think it's a brilliant innovation or a step too far? We'd love to hear your opinions in the comments below!
