Get ready, Broadway fans! Jeremy Jordan, the original star, is set to reprise his role as Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby starting November 10th at the Broadway Theatre! This is exciting news for anyone who loves a good musical and a touch of glamour.
Jordan, a Tony nominee, is stepping back into Gatsby's iconic pink suit. He's taking over from Ryan McCartan, who gave his final performance on November 9th. Jordan had previously left the production to star in Floyd Collins at Lincoln Center, a role that earned him a 2025 Tony Award nomination.
The announcement of Jordan's return was first shared on Instagram, accompanied by a video of Jordan and Aisha Jackson (who plays Daisy Buchanan) performing a mashup of "My Green Light" from the show and Lorde's "Green Light." A clever way to build anticipation, wouldn't you say?
The current cast is packed with talent, including Michael Maliakel as Nick, Linedy Genao as Myrtle Wilson, Austin Colby as Tom Buchanan, Samantha Pauly as Jordan Baker, Charlie Pollock as George Wilson, and Eric Anderson as Meyer Wolfsheim. The ensemble is equally impressive, featuring Alexis Hasbrouck, Curtis Holland, Nathaniel Hunt, and many more, ensuring a vibrant and energetic performance.
But here's where it gets controversial... The musical, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel, features music and lyrics by Nathan Tysen and Jason Howland, and a book by Kait Kerrigan. Marc Bruni directs, with choreography by Dominique Kelley. The creative team has reimagined this timeless story for the stage.
Set in the dazzling Roaring '20s, the musical tells the tragic tale of Jay Gatsby, a millionaire obsessed with winning back the love of his life, Daisy Buchanan.
The production also boasts stunning design elements, including scenic and projection design by Paul Tate de Poo III, costume design by Linda Cho, sound design by Brian Ronan, lighting design by Cory Pattak, and hair and wig design by Charles G. LaPointe and Rachael Geier. The music is arranged by Jason Howland, with orchestrations by Howland and Kim Scharnberg. Daniel Edmonds serves as music director, and Billy Jay Stein is the music producer.
Casting is handled by C12 Casting, with Brian Bogin as the production stage manager. Mark Shacket of Foresight Theatrical is the executive producer. The Great Gatsby even took home the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical.
