It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Kevin McAlynn, a man whose life was a testament to love, family, and resilience. But here’s where it gets emotional—Kevin’s journey, though cut short by a brief illness, leaves behind a legacy of devotion and cherished memories. On October 25th, 2025, he peacefully departed, leaving a void in the hearts of those who knew him best.
Kevin, a resident of 44 Ratheen Avenue, Cookstown (BT80 8HJ), was a pillar of strength for his family. He is survived by his children—Loretta, Sinead, Kevin, and the late baby Christopher—as well as his sons-in-law, Emmett and Sinead. He was the former husband of the late Bernadette, and his role as a grandfather to Shea, Tiernan, Caity, Caoimhe, Ellie, Oisín, and Mamie, and great-grandfather to Ella, brought him immense joy. And this is the part most people miss—his family tree was vast, including siblings Brian, Aidan, Donal, Dermot, Shane, Ann, Mona, Donna, Pauline, Amelia, Patricia, Carmel, and the late Louie, baby Rose, and Paul, who passed away in infancy. He was the beloved son of the late Barney and Lizzie.
Kevin’s remains are currently resting at the home of his son and daughter-in-law at 15 Ratheen Avenue, where family and close friends can pay their respects. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, October 28th, beginning at 10:45 a.m. and proceeding to the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Cookstown for an 11:30 a.m. requiem mass. Following the service, Kevin will be laid to rest in Forthill Cemetery. But here’s where it gets controversial—for those unable to attend in person, the requiem mass will be live-streamed via this link: https://mcn.live/Camera/holy-trinity-church-cookstown-parish. Is this the future of funerals, or does it diminish the personal touch? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Kevin’s passing is deeply mourned by his immediate family, extended relatives, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and the entire community he touched. The family kindly requests privacy from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m. and on the morning of the funeral, a time reserved for quiet reflection and preparation.
